The Philadelphia Flyers (9-5-3) head into the second game of their back-to-back road stand Saturday night with the Dallas Stars (11-4-3) waiting for them at American Airlines Center. The puck is scheduled to drop at 8pm/ET.
The Flyers enter the matchup riding high after battling back to defeat the St. Louis Blues less than 24 hours ago. Philadelphia trailed by a pair of goals twice and persevered to skate away with two points following a 6-5 shootout victory.
The line made up of Owen Tippett, Christian Dvorak, and Trevor Zegras carried the squad by contributing to all five of Philadelphia’s goals. Tippett had a four-point night for the first time in his career while Dvorak and Zegras both netted a pair of tallies. The Flyers’ trio finished with 10 points and a +7 rating.
“I mean, we’ve been playing together for some time now. We kind of know where each other likes to hang out,” Zegras said. “I think we were just getting a couple good bounces tonight, but I really liked our game for sure.”
Dan Vladař starts in net tonight coming off a 29-save performance in Philadelphia’s 2-1 overtime loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday. The Flyers have recorded points in four of their last five games when Vladař was between the pipes. The Czech netminder has a .905 SV% in those five outings.
Vladař had a tough ask stopping Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, and the pressure should be heavily applied once more against the Stars. Dallas is on a four-game winning streak. They’ve outscored their oppositions 17-7 during that stretch including a 7-0 beat down over the Montréal Canadiens in their last game.
Nikita Grebenkin may enter the lineup tonight, according to Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet. “There’s a rotation right now,” Tocchet said. “There’s a good chance he’ll be in tonight. Just positional stuff and just keep working. He’s a young kid and we’ll get him going.”
Despite Dallas being ranked 26th in shots on goal per game (25.8), they make each chance count. Much credit is given to their two dangerous power play units with the Stars converting 32.8% on the man advantage, second-best in the NHL. The Stars already have three players (Mikko Rantanen, Jason Robertson, and Wyatt Johnston) with 20+ points on the season too.
Sidenote, the Flyers have lost their last eight games in Dallas against the Stars, going 0-5-3. Philadelphia’s last win in “The Big D” came on Oct. 18, 2014, in a 6-5 overtime win with Claude Giroux scoring the game winner. Andrew MacDonald had a goal and an assist that night while Mark Streit picked up two helpers. Ray Emery and Steve Mason were in net for the Flyers. Yeah, it’s been a long time coming.

Philadelphia’s Player to Watch: Tyson Foerster
Foerster had four goals and eight points prior to missing four games with a lower body injury. He has two contests under his belt since returning to the lineup and this could be the night where the Foerster, Noah Cates, and Bobby Brink line rekindle their magic helping the Flyers out offensively.
Dallas’ Player to Watch: Jake Oettinger
The Stars’ elite goaltender has been a thorn in the side of the Flyers over his career. Oettinger is 4-1-0 with a 2.00 GAA and .937 SV% against Philadelphia. He enters winning his previous two starts. For the Flyers who are seated 28th based upon shots on goal per game (24.9), Philadelphia is going to have to figure out a way to execute and get pucks behind Oettinger.
