For a second game in a row now, the Philadelphia Flyers (8-5-3) forced another game past regulation, and lost. This time, it was the Edmonton Oilers who would defeat the Flyers in a 2-1 final. Evan Bouchard and Jack Roslovic scored Edmonton’s goals, and Roslovic has now had the overtime game winner in back to back games. Matvei Michkov scored the lone goal for the Flyers, making it his 4th of the season, and goals in three games in a row. The Flyers nearly won the game with 23.5 seconds left in the final period via a Travis Konecny deflection, but was overruled for offsides.
Despite being largely outplayed at even strength, the Flyers’ special teams and Dan Vladař were the standouts for this game. The penalty kill was perfect and went 2/2. The power play would be responsible for the Flyers lone goal, finishing 1/3 on the night as well. Vladař continued his hot start for the Flyers, who stopped 30 of 32 shots this game and finished with a .938 SV%.
First Period
Shots: 13-5, Edmonton
Score: 1-0, Edmonton
The Flyers looked poised to come out of the gate hot. Early in the game, their scoring lines immediately began pressuring the Oilers in their zone. Owen Tippett made a beautiful maneuver in the left circle, and curled towards the slot and rang a shot of iron. Then, Michkov had taken his turn with some grit and fancy moves with the puck. It looked like he was lined up to get smoked at the blue line, but ate the hit. Matvei then made a sweet deke to his back hand, and moved the puck for another shot chance. The Konecny line would send Cam York for a 2-on-1, but he would be stopped too. Tippett nearly sprang Konecny for a breakaway, and the Flyers would proceed to regain the zone and crash the net. It was a hot start, but they just could not seem to finish.
Then the tides began to shift in favor of the Oilers, and they would trade their chances with the Flyers as well. Nick Seeler would be the first Flyer caught cheating tonight, and was sent to the box for hooking. As mentioned earlier, the penalty kills were perfect, and they did an excellent job of keeping the Oilers on the outside. They were also fortunate to have Connor McDavid miss half of the power play, who was allegedly nursing something in the tunnel.
From basically this point out, the Oilers would control the rest of this period. Oilers struck first near the end of the first period. the Tyson Foerster–Noah Cates–Bobby Brink line has been rejoined after Foerster missed 4 games. They were tasked with stopping the McDavid line, and got burnt. All forwards got caught way too deep near the goalie, and gave Bouchard plenty of room to slap in the Oilers’ first goal of the night.

Second Period
Shots: 25-11, Edmonton
Score: 1-1
Unfortunately, the Flyers responded poorly in the second period and let the other team dominate them for most of it. The boos began to rain down in Xfinity Mobile Arena. The Flyers simply could not get the puck nor hold the puck. Just 8 minutes into the period, the opponents outshot the Flyers 7-0. It was ugly.
“Keep the puck and make a pass. Don’t feel it pout, don’t panic. That’s some of the things we’re working on. We’re not a perfect team. Even when we were hemmed in the second, I was talking to the goalie coach Dilly [Kim Dillabaugh], and it was a lot of shots from the outside. It’s not that I don’t think they had a ton of Grade-A’s in that second period. ” – Rick Tocchet; 11/12/2025
Then, with about 5 and a half minutes left in the second period, Tippett drew a penalty after weaving through several Oilers sticks entering the zone.
And all they needed was that first opportunity. Michkov nearly scored on a rebound after York got the puck on net by the right post. He would slyly move to the left circle, where he executed a catch and release so well, Stuart Skinner never saw it coming.

It also probably helped that the Flyers had two forwards in front of the net, something Rick Tocchet has been begging for since the start of the season. Somehow, someway, despite dramatically outplaying him, Michkov just needed one chance to give the Flyers life, and he did with this amazing wrist shot. This would make it three straight games with a goal. In the wake of all of the drama and criticism, Michkov appears to be regaining form 16 games into the season.
“That was a great powerplay. Mihckov has been working on that downhill shot. He shoots a million pucks. That was designed, from the bench I watched it, and there was a little bit open, and Skinner couldn’t see it. It was a great placement. He works on that everyday, so you got to give the kid credit, it was a hell of a goal.” – Rick Tocchet; 11/12/2025
Third Period
Shots: 30-20, Flyers
Score: 1-1
Okay, now with the game tied up, the Flyers will start this period with some jump, right? Kind of, but not to start. Just 3 seconds in. Cates committed an unusual act, as the referee whistled him for a high-sticking penalty. It was largely a calm penalty kill. Sean Couturier did a nice job of interrupted a cross-ice pass in the slot area, which allowed for York to clear the puck.
The Flyers would then get another powerplay, but this time could not beat the Oilers through the neutral zone to establish control. The Flyers would get their third and final penalty when someone crashed into Vladař (again). All hell broke loose as Flyers and Oilers skaters would tie up for facewashes and other pleasantries. In their final power play, they were able to set up a flurry of chances, but could not find a way to beat Skinner.
McDavid would finally get a chance of his own. He made a move from the left circle, shooting high stick. Unfortunately for him, Vladař was able to fight off the shot with just over a minute remaining in the game. Then, for a brief moment, the stadium erupted as Travis Konecny redirected a puck past Skinner to give the Flyers the lead with 23.5 seconds remaining. Unfortunately, the moment would soon fade, as Tippett would be found offside. It was a tough night for Tippett. Ringing pucks off the post is bad luck, but gliding in the zone for an offside when Konecny is not making a move is just a lack of awareness.
“Yeah it hurts. You kind of stick with it like a team like that. With 20 seconds left, you think you won the game, and nobody knows on the ice that it’s offside . Definitely stings.” – Owen Tippett; 11/12/2025
Overtime
Shots: 32-21, Edmonton
Score: 2-1, Edmonton
The Flyers did get one chance. Couturier muscled his way into the slot, but Skinner made the save. Moments later, York would bobble the puck with no pressure and lose his footing. The Oilers went on a 2-on-0, and Jack Roslovic would score the game winner for the Oilers for a second straight game.
It depends how you look at it. Any night you get take a point from the Oilers is likely a good night. However, they had a chance to steal the second point in the second straight game and fumbled it away. Last night’s stars were undoubtedly Dan Vladař and the special teams. Everyone else? Not so much.
