The Philadelphia Flyers (26-21-11) returned to action after the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics on a back-to-back road trip against two NHL Metropolitan Division rivals. First, the Flyers dropped a regulation decision to the Washington Capitals, 3-1. Then, Philadelphia stole a win in overtime from the New York Rangers, 3-2.

Today, the Flyers host the Boston Bruins (33-20-5) at 3pm/ET.

Over the last ten games, Philadelphia is 3-4-3. They’re out of reach of striking for the first-overall pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.

Meanwhile, the Bruins are holding out hope for a postseason berth. Currently, they position themselves as the wildcard in the Atlantic Division. Boston is 6-1-3 over their last ten games. Yet, the oddsmakers will show the Flyers are the favorites in today’s matchup.

Just about every metric tilts in favor of the Bruins. They’re the hotter team, running on the engine of Morgan Geekie and Charlie McAvoy. When you break down team stats, Boston has the edge in most of those areas through the course of the 2025-2026 NHL Regular Season to date. If Philadelphia remains close in today’s clash, it’ll be because of Dan Vladař. He’ll need to outperform Jeremy Swayman, who has very similar performance metrics.

Team Stat Advantages

  • Power Play: Boston Bruins (26.5%; 3rd)
  • Penalty Kill: Philadelphia Flyers (79.5%; 15th)

  • Goals Against/Games Played: Boston Bruins (3.12; 18th)

Philadelphia Flyers

Vladař (17-9-6, 2.46GAA, 90.5%SV) wasn’t victorious in his last start. He provided a chance for the Flyers to win in their return to action from the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. In the latter half of the third period, the Capitals broke through when Philadelphia couldn’t. About a month ago, Sam Ersson made the start against the Bruins, allowing five goals. The only exposure Vladař has to Boston is when he relieved Ersson for 19:46, saving each of the six shots he faced during the third period. Potentially, Vladař could be the key to a different result this time on home ice.

Carl Grundström (8G, 2A, +2, 25%FO) and Noah Cates (11G, 17A, +15, 44.5%FO) are firing shots on goal since the return from the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. Matvei Michkov and Owen Tippett are shooting too, but in the back-to-back, Grundström and Cates lead the way with seven shots on goal. Sean Couturier desperately needs to mix into the fold, even if he notched the primary assist on Michkov’s overtime game-winner. If he’s unable to get it going with the puck today, then Couturier, and for that matter, Christian Dvorak, will need to be masterful on the penalty kill.

Jamie Drysdale (5G, 18A, -8, 63BLK, 13HIT) attacked the offensive zone with such poise against the Rangers. He found his place at the point and found room in the slot. Similar to forwards like Grundström and Cates since the Flyers’ return to action from the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, Drysdale is leading the defensemen in shots on goal.
