Philadelphia Flyers Reduce Their Roster to 40 Players

The roster purge continues as the Philadelphia Flyers had announced 7 cuts ahead of their game versus the Boston Bruins last night and 4 more ahead of their first home game tonight against the New Jersey Devils.

Last night, forwards Alexis Gendron and Zayde Wisdom, and defensemen Will Zmolek, Mason Millman, and Ethan Samson have been loaned to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Meanwhile, defenseman Adam Karashik and goaltender Nolan Maier have been released from their professional try-outs and will report to the Phantoms as well.

Earlier today forward Elliot Desnoyers and defenseman Helge Grans were loaned to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Jacob Gaucher and Jordy Bellerive were released from their professional try-outs but will report to the Phantoms.

After entering camp with a very large roster to begin with, it was always seen as good exposure and experience for the young players. Several recently drafted prospects played their part but now the real nitty gritty decisions are going to be made with just 2 weeks remaining until the regular season gets underway.

In conjunction with these moves the Flyers loaned goaltender Carson Bjarnason back to the Brandon Wheat Kings the other day and released Sam Sedley and Jonathan Fauchon from their camp invites as well as returning Denver Barkey, Oliver Bonk, and Carter Sotheran to their respective junior clubs.

The Flyers roster now sits at 40 players with 3 games remaining until the end of the pre-season, including tonight’s game against the New Jersey Devils, October 2nd against the Bruins, and October 5th against the New York Islanders.

Remaining amongst the 40 players are 23 forwards, 13 defensemen, and 4 goaltenders.
