Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers’ 0-6-3 start to the 2026-27 season almost seems like it’s way in the rearview mirror at this point after their recent stretch of games. The night and day difference of how the team looked then compared to how they’ve looked across the last three games is astounding. Through their first nine games, the Flyers averaged just 1.22 goals for per game while allowing 3.67 goals against per game. Their power play also operated at a pedestrian 7.7 success rate. Over their last three games beginning with last Saturday’s win over Ottawa, the Flyers are now averaging 3 goals for per game, just 1.33 goals against per game, and the power play is now clicking at a whopping 30 percent. Whatever rust they still had previously, it has apparently been shaken off.

The recent infusion of youth throughout the lineup has certainly played its part in Philadelphia’s recent success as well. Cole Knuble, who was arguably the team’s most impressive forward in training camp, recorded his first two NHL goals on Wednesday against the Sabres and was named the game’s first star. Oliver Bonk has been glued to Travis Sanheim on the right side of the defense’s top pair and has looked extraordinary, notching three assists over the last two games and has averaged almost 20 minutes of ice time since his recall.

Rasmus Ristolainen is a game-time decision for today’s game, per NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Jordan Hall. Ristolainen has missed the Flyers’ last nine games with a hand injury and he will see how he feels in warmups before the team makes a decision on his playing status.

The Flyers’ goaltending has been tremendous all season and now they’re finally being rewarded with victories as well. Dan Vladař has won his last two outings against Ottawa and Buffalo, and Joseph Woll picked up his first win as a Flyer on Monday against Colorado. Since Vladař’s shaky opening night against Pittsburgh, he has recorded a .921 SV% and 2.38 GAA over his last five games. Woll maintains a .917 SV% and 2.64 GAA across all six of his appearances this season. Woll also leads the league in high-danger SV% at .938, per NHL EDGE.

Woll has been confirmed to start today against the Ducks, continuing the Flyers’ trend of alternating their goalies. In three prior career outings against Anaheim with Toronto, Woll is 3-0-0 with a .923 SV% and 2.64 GAA.

Anaheim Ducks

The Ducks are mired in a five-game losing streak as they enter today’s game after winning four of their first five games to begin the season. Anaheim has not won a road game since October 10th at Calgary, nor have they won in Philadelphia since October 28th, 2023. Today could be a long day for them.

Flyers $90 million offer sheet signee Leo Carlsson paces the team with 9 assists and 11 points on the campaign so far. Beckett Sennecke leads the club with 5 goals. Noted pariah Cutter Gauthier has just 2 goals in 9 games so far this season. You can expect him to be warmly welcomed to town as usual by the Philadelphia faithful today.

The Ducks’ goaltending has struggled this season. Starter Lukáš Dostál is 3-4-0 with a .881 SV% and 3.16 GAA, while backup Ville Husso is 1-2-0 with a .886 SV% and 3.09 GAA. Anaheim’s 3.30 goals against per game as a team ranks 10th-worst across the NHL this season.

Players To Watch

Matvei Michkov is riding a four-game point streak and has easily been the Flyers’ best player this season. He has four goals across his last four games, including the game-winner last Saturday against the Senators. His 6 goals and 8 points lead the Flyers, and he received an uptick of ice time on Wednesday against the Sabres with 18:02 played. Rick Tocchet might finally be learning how to use him properly. Michkov has five points (3g, 2a) during the Flyers’ winning streak. In three career games against Anaheim, Michkov has a goal and an assist, with the helper coming on Noah Cates’ overtime winner last season in the last matchup between these clubs in Southern California on March 18th.

Trevor Zegras got some solid revenge against his former team last season, notching two goals on January 6th in a 5-2 Flyers victory and capped off the evening by saying he felt “f***ing amazing” afterwards. Tied for the Flyers’ points lead at 8, Zegras also has five points across the team’s winning streak (2g, 3a), including the game-winning goal on Wednesday in Buffalo. Expect him to keep things rolling today against the team that traded him to Philadelphia.
