The Philadelphia Flyers announced on Monday evening that they have re-signed forward Linus Sandin to a one-year, two-way contract, per Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher. The contract will carry an average annual value of $750,000 at the NHL level and will run through the 2022-23 season.

Sandin will enter his third season in the Flyers organization next season. He originally signed his entry-level contract with the team in April 2020 and spent most of the 2020-21 season with the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Prior to playing in North America, Sandin made his SHL debut with Rögle BK for the 2017-18 season and racked up seven points in 42 games in his rookie year with the team after spending the majority of his youth and junior career playing through MODO Hockey’s lower ranks.

Sandin racked up a career-high 19 goals and 17 assists for 36 points in 51 games in 2019-20 before the season was paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Flyers would signed the forward shortly after the SHL’s playoffs were cancelled due to the pandemic, and Sandin scored six goals and four assists for 10 points in 26 games with the Phantoms in his first North American professional season in 2020-21 after beginning that year on loan with HV71 of the SHL, where he scored four goals and six assists for 10 points in 20 games.

The Uppsala, Sweden native re-signed on a one-year deal after the 2020-21 season as well, and while he spent the bulk of his time with Lehigh Valley, he finally made his NHL debut on January 25th, 2022 at UBS Arena against the New York Islanders during the Flyers’ franchise-record 13-game losing streak. It was his lone appearance with the Flyers this season and he registered one shot on goal, two blocked shots, and one takeaway in just 6:59 of ice time.

With the Phantoms, the 26 year-old posted eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points in 36 games this season. He missed some significant time with an orbital injury as well but recovered nicely to finish seventh in total scoring on the Phantoms on top of earning his recall to the NHL.

Sandin will serve much in the same role as he did this past season, as a depth option that will likely play the majority of his hockey in Allentown but will be a recall option in case of injuries or emergencies.
