The Philadelphia Flyers have announced they have re-signed defenseman Helge Grans to a two-year, two-way/one-way contract extension. The contract carries a $787,500 AAV.

Grans, a 2020 second-round draft pick (35th overall) by the Los Angeles Kings, was acquired by the Flyers from the Kings in the 2023 three-team trade that saw Ivan Provorov head to Columbus. He was slated to become a restricted free agent this summer.

The Ljungby, Sweden native is coming off a solid season in the AHL with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Grans recorded a career-high 8 goals to accompany 15 assists and 42 penalty minutes in 66 games. His 23 points were third among Phantoms defensemen behind Louie Belpedio (28) and Ethan Samson (24).

Grans also racked up 1 goal and 3 assists in 7 Calder Cup Playoff games. His lone goal of the postseason was the series-clinching goal in Game 2 of the Atlantic Division First Round against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Grans also got his first taste of NHL action with the Flyers this past season. He appeared in 6 games for Philadelphia, notching 1 assist in his debut on November 18th, 2024 in a 3-2 loss to Colorado.

Grans will a name to watch out for in training camp as he’ll be vying for a roster spot with the Flyers. Rasmus Ristolainen may not be ready for the start of the season after his right triceps surgery and Egor Zamula struggled mightily last year, which could pave the way for Grans to earn more opportunities with Philadelphia.

Grans’ re-signing comes just a day after the Flyers re-signed fellow RFA Tyson Foerster to a 2-year, $3.75 million AAV contract extension. Cam York, Noah Cates, Jakob Pelletier, Zayde Wisdom, and Elliot Desnoyers are now the remaining RFAs in the organization.
