A fifth-round selection by the Flyers in the 2022 NHL Draft, Bump entered the transfer portal on July 31st after asking for his release from the University of Vermont.

Bump is entering his freshman collegiate season after spending the 2022-23 season between the USHL’s Omaha Lancers and Tri-City Storm, posting 14 goals and 25 assists for 39 points in 48 games.

In his draft season, Bump recorded 11 goals and 6 assists for 17 points in 27 contests with Omaha. He also utterly dominated the Minnesota high school circuit that year, racking up 48 goals and 35 assists for 83 points in just 31 games while serving as team captain for Prior Lake High School.

The 19-year-old Burnsville, Minnesota native will be joining a Western Michigan squad that is filled with talent and features six other NHL draftees along with Bump (Carter Berger – FLA, Samuel Sjölund – DAL, Sam Colangelo – ANA, Matteo Constantini – BUF, Ethan Philips – DET, Wyatt Schingoethe – TOR).

Western Michigan has served as a mini-pipeline of sorts for the Flyers in recent years, with Ronnie Attard and Wade Allison previously suiting up for the Broncos. Flyers President of Hockey Operations Keith Jones also played at Western Michigan before reaching the NHL.
