The Philadelphia Flyers have traded defenseman Egor Zamula to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for forward Philip Tomasino, according to general manager Daniel Brière. Additionally, Tomasino will report to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL.

It was reported on the weekend during Elliotte Friedman’s Hockey Night in Canada intermission segment that the Flyers were looking to trade the disgruntled defenseman. After having been placed on waivers and subsequently clearing, Zamula changed agents, and was exploring a contract termination.
Friedman alluded to the fact that the Flyers were still gauging the trade market in the hopes of acquiring someone who could help at both the NHL and AHL levels.
Tomasino was originally drafted by the Nashville Predators in the first round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. The Mississauga, Ontario native played for the Niagara Ice Dogs for 3.5 years in the OHL before finishing things up with the Oshawa Generals, where he combined for 100 points in 62 games during his final year.
He spent several years rotating between the NHL and the AHL, where he recorded 82 points in 89 games in the minors, while adding 48 points in 159 games at the NHL-level between 2021 and 2024.
During the 2024-25 season, the Predators traded Tomasino to the Penguins for a fourth round pick in 2027. He finished the year with 23 points in 50 games with the big club, and has split his 2025-26 season between both levels, with 15 points in 14 games in the AHL and 1 assist in 9 games for the Penguins.
The 6’0”, 187-pound right winger will now report to the Phantoms, where he will look to help the offense. He’s been a prolific AHL point producer and should garner a large role for a team looking to make the playoffs again.
As for Zamula, his Flyers tenure ends on a more sour note. The Russian defenseman was an undrafted prospect, who made his way through the ranks, while playing a pivotal role for both the NHL and AHL teams. Unfortunately, he lost his footing with the NHL club and started becoming a frequent press box visitor.
Zamula leaves the Flyers with 8 goals and 41 points in 168 games across 6 seasons. He averaged 15:53 TOI, was -12, collected 48 PIM, and blocked 218 shots. At his best, he was a smooth skating defenseman with power play potential, but he no longer fit that bill over the last season and a bit.
