With the playoffs coming to a close, the Philadelphia Flyers finally disclosed their injury list, and it was a doozy.
While we knew about some players and had a feeling about others, general manager Daniel Brière let the cat out of the bag and talked about injuries relating to 10 different players.
Emil Andrae: Fractured wrist – requires surgery
Alex Bump: MCL sprain
Noah Cates: Fractured foot – no surgery required
Christian Dvorak: Fractured rib, separated shoulder
Nikita Grebenkin: Upper-body injury
Garnet Hathaway: Fractured fibula
Travis Konecny: Fractured rib, nasal fracture
Owen Tippett: Internal bleeding, core muscle injury
Cam York: Fractured rib
Trevor Zegras: Elbow ligament sprain

Out of the 10 players listed, the Flyers had already divulged that Cates was going to be out for their series against Carolina, Tippett was skating but was nowhere close to a return, and Grebenkin had been missing since March 21st.
The Flyers even released a statement earlier this week regarding Tippett, showcasing the magnitude of his injury. The speedy winger suffered the internal bleeding issue during the first round. Despite being cleared to skate, he never reached a point where it was safe to return.
Dvorak was another player that we knew was dealing with something after head coach Rick Tocchet intimated as much before the second round shifted back to Philadelphia.
As for the rest, it certainly comes as a surprise. Konecny might be the outlier of the group because something never looked right with the veteran winger. He struggled mightily throughout the postseason and perhaps the injuries were the root cause.
Nevertheless, players like Andrae, Bump, Hathaway, Zegras, and York dealt with significant injuries, despite really strong individual efforts. Bump scored the game-tying goal in Game 4 against Carolina, Hathaway was a pest with a never-ending motor, Zegras finished with 6 points, and York scored the series-clinching overtime winner in round one.
Brière didn’t go into detail on time of recovery but they should be ready for training camp in September. He did specify that Cates does not require surgery, which bodes well for his recovery, but Andrae seems to be the only one that will go under the knife.
With the injury list being so long, it’s no surprise that the Flyers won’t be heavily represented at this year’s IIHF Men’s World Championship that is set to begin tomorrow. Porter Martone (Canada) and Jack Berglund (Sweden) were named to their respective national teams earlier this week.
Carl Grundström is a new addition and will be joining Berglund on Team Sweden.
