Flyers’ Owen Tippett suffered internal bleeding issue in First Round against Penguins

We now have a definitive answer on why Owen Tippett did not appear in the Philadelphia Flyers’ Second Round series of the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Carolina Hurricanes.

In a statement released by the Flyers on Tippett’s behalf on Tuesday morning, the forward suffered an internal bleeding issue against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the First Round.

“Following a series of medical evaluations, treatments, and rehabilitation under the care of Flyers medical team, I am making progress and feeling better each day,” said Tippett in the statement. “Despite being cleared to travel and skate with the team at certain practices, things did not progress at a pace that I hoped for or would allow me to safely continue playing.”

Tippett was already reported to be dealing with a sports hernia during the First Round by Flyers website contributor Bill Meltzer, but internal bleeding is almost incomprehensible to think about.

Luckily, Tippett looks like he should be ready to go for training camp in the fall.

“I am confident for a full recovery and look forward to returning for training camp in September and an exciting year ahead for this organization.”

In the Flyers’ First Round victory over the Penguins, Tippett registered an assist in Game 2 on a marvelous effort that led to a Garnet Hathaway shorthanded goal in a 3-0 win, and he scored the empty-net dagger in Game 3 in a 5-2 win.
