The Philadelphia Flyers Roster for the 2021-2022 Season

(Heather Barry Images, LLC)

The Philadelphia Flyers have announced their 2021-2022 regular season roster, comprising of 21 players. Due to cap restraints, the Flyers have to utilize a roster of 20 players (plus Kevin Hayes) with no healthy scratches. It does help that the Flyers open their season on a short home-stand and that the Lehigh Valley Phantoms are close by in proximity, in case they need an emergency call-up.

The roster itself has no surprises outside of the addition of Kevin Hayes. He suffered an abdominal injury in training camp and was set to miss 6-8 weeks. The silver lining of his injury is that it occurred a month before the regular season opener, meaning he would only miss around a month of games (around 10), instead of two months of actual games.

The Flyers opening night roster includes the addition of Patrick Brown. With all the injuries piling up and the demotion of Morgan Frost, the final roster spot was a battle between Garrett Wilson and Jackson Cates. Neither player got the assignment as they claimed Brown off waivers from the Vegas Golden Knights

Patrick Brown is a former teammate of Kevin Hayes from their Boston College days and has recorded 2 goals and 1 assist in 33 career games with the Carolina Hurricanes and Golden Knights. The 29 year old is a prototypical fourth liner, nothing too flashy but was well liked by the Knights and their fans.

In terms of final cuts, the Flyers assigned Cam York, Nick Seeler, Jackson Cates, and Garrett Wilson to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Samuel Morin was placed on the injured reserved list as he’s supposed to miss 6-8 weeks as well. Finally Egor Zamula, Wade Allison, Cooper Zech, Ryan Fitzgerald, Tanner Laczynski, and Zayde Wisdom will begin the year on the non-roster injured list.
