According to a report from The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta, the Philadelphia Flyers will take on the New Jersey Devils at MetLife Stadium as part of the 2024 NHL Stadium Series.

This will mark the Flyers’ third Stadium Series appearance and sixth outdoor game appearance.

The Flyers’ last outdoor contest game took place on February 21st, 2021 against the Boston Bruins in a 7-3 loss as part of the NHL Outdoors at Lake Tahoe doubleheader that also featured the Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche.

Philadelphia’s last Stadium Series appearance was on February 23rd, 2019 when they hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Philadelphia Eagles’ Lincoln Financial Field, where a furious third period Flyers comeback was capped off by Claude Giroux’s overtime winner to give the home team a 4-3 victory in Wayne Simmonds’ final game as a Flyer.

This will also be the first time MetLife Stadium will host NHL games. Previous outdoor games in the New York City area have taken place at Yankee Stadium (2014 Stadium Series) and Citi Field (2018 Winter Classic).

As of now, the NHL now has 4 outdoor games tentatively scheduled for the 2023-24 campaign. The Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames will take their rivalry outside for the first time at the Edmonton Elks’ Commonwealth Stadium for the 2023 Heritage Classic on October 29th, and the Seattle Kraken and Vegas Golden Knights will participate in the 2024 Winter Classic at the Seattle Mariners’ T-Mobile Park on January 1st before the Flyers, Devils, New York Rangers, and New York Islanders face off in East Rutherford, New Jersey in February.
