Report: Flyers Sign Tyson Foerster to an 8-Year Extension

As the clock was nearing noon, the Philadelphia Flyers extended forward Tyson Foerster to an 8-year deal worth $7 million per season, according to insider Elliotte Friedman.

Foerster’s 2025-26 season was cut short due to a lengthy arm injury, but he still managed 13 goals and 17 points in 29 games. At one point it was expected that he would miss the entire season, but made his return in time to help the Flyers make the playoffs, playing a key role in the top-6.

The 24-year-old has 61 goals and 100 points in 195 games after being drafted by the club in the first round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Foerster scored a career-high 25 goals and 43 points in 81 games in the 2024-25 season.

His two-way play has always been seen as a massive plus, and that was evidenced during the playoffs, when head coach Rick Tocchet played him a career-high 18:25 ATOI in 10 games. Foerster only potted 1 goal as it seemed like he hit a wall after coming back from his injury a little sooner than expected.

Nevertheless, he was seen as a pivotal cog in the machine, and for his efforts received a lengthy extension – when first eligible for one – that will keep him around for the next 9 years, including the final year of his current contract that runs through the 2026-27 season.

Interestingly enough, Foerster’s name was mentioned quite a bit in trade talks leading up to free agency, but according to multiple insiders close to the team, he was seen as an untouchable asset. The 8-year extension further proves that point as the Flyers will look to build their future with the forward in tow.

Look for the Alliston, Ontario native, to make strides once again next year as he searches for his first 30-goal season.
