The Philadelphia Flyers (20-11-7) beat out the Vancouver Canucks (16-20-3) with a gritty effort, using balanced scoring, timely responses, and strong goaltending to earn the 6-3 victory at Rogers Arena on Tuesday. After a sluggish start, the Flyers found their legs, took control in the second, and never let the Canucks fully claw back, securing a road victory.
First Period
The tone was set almost immediately, as Nick Seeler wasted no time, dropping the gloves for a brief scrap with Evander Kane after taking exception to a hit. While it provided some early energy, the Flyers struggled to generate much offensively in the opening minutes.
Vancouver opened the scoring when David Kämpf, skating in his first game back with the Canucks, beat Dan Vladař with a wrist shot. Drew O’Connor and Marcus Pettersson picked up the assists on the play.

The Flyers were sent to the penalty kill first, with Bobby Brink called for slashing against Brock Boeser, and overall it was a slow start for Philadelphia. It took nearly 12 minutes for the Flyers to register their first shot on goal, and by that point, Vancouver already had 10.
However, the Flyers made their chances count. On just their second shot of the night, Noah Cates buried a goal to tie the game, finishing a play set up by Matvei Michkov and Bobby Brink.

At 15:25, the game shifted to 4-on-4 as Travis Konecny (slashing) and Filip Hronek (cross-checking) were sent off after an exchange, though neither team was able to capitalize before the period came to a close.
Second Period
The Flyers grabbed their first lead of the night thanks to the red-hot Carl Grundström, who scored for the fourth straight game. Nikita Grebenkin and Travis Sanheim assisted on the goal. Since joining the Flyers via the Ryan Ellis contract trade with San Jose, Grundström has quietly made an impact, now sitting at seven goals and one assist in 12 games with Philadelphia.

At 7:19, Sanheim was whistled for tripping, but the Flyers’ penalty kill came through once again to keep the momentum on their side.
Late in the period, the Flyers extended their lead when Konecny found the back of the net at 16:20, finishing a play set up by Jamie Drysdale and Trevor Zegras.

Philadelphia finally earned its first power play of the night at 18:01 after Marcus Pettersson was called for high-sticking, but the advantage was short-lived. Just 28 seconds later, Drysdale went off for interference, negating any chance to build on the man advantage before the intermission.
Third Period
Vancouver began the third period still on the power play but was unable to convert. Shortly after it expired, the Canucks cut into the lead when O’Connor capitalized on a rebound after a Kämpf shot. The puck bounced freely in front, and there was little Vladař could do to stop it.

The Flyers responded immediately. Less than 30 seconds later, Brink restored the two-goal cushion, finishing a beautiful setup from Michkov, with Cates earning the secondary assist.

At 15:32, Grundström was called for holding, prompting the Canucks to pull Thatcher Demko for a 6-on-4 advantage. The Flyers’ penalty kill held firm, and Owen Tippett sealed the outcome with an empty-net goal, assisted by Rodrigo Ābols and Rasmus Ristolainen.

Vancouver refused to go quietly, as Tom Willander scored moments later after Vladař ended up on his back after a scramble for the puck in front of the net.

Still, the Flyers had the final word. With Demko pulled once again, Christian Dvorak scored Philadelphia’s second empty-net goal of the night, with assists from Zegras and Konecny, cementing the 6–3 victory.

Vladař turned in another strong performance against Vancouver, stopping 32 of 35 shots. His steady play, particularly during a rough opening 10 minutes, kept the Flyers within reach until their offense found its rhythm.
Up Next
The Flyers will close out this back-to-back on New Year’s Eve when they take on the Calgary Flames at 9:30pm/ET. The matchup has an extra layer of familiarity, as former Flyers Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee both remain with Calgary, setting up an intriguing reunion as Philadelphia looks to carry its momentum into the final game of the calendar year.
