The Philadelphia Flyers (16-9-4) will wrap up their six-game homestand on Saturday night when they host the Carolina Hurricanes (19-9-2), the current leaders of the Metropolitan Division, at Xfinity Mobile Arena. Opening faceoff is set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
This matchup marks the first half of a home-and-home series between the two teams this weekend.
Both teams enter the night with special teams units searching for consistency. Carolina’s penalty kill ranks 21st in the league at 78.8%, while the Flyers sit 15th at 81.8%. On the power play, neither side has found much success recently. Philadelphia ranks 23rd at 17.3%, while Carolina’s power play is tied for 28th in the league at 15.4%.
The Hurricanes are 3-2 in their last five games, averaging 2.8 goals per game while allowing an even 3.0 goals against per contest. The Flyers are 2-3 over their last five, all of which came on home ice, scoring 2.8 goals per game and allowing 2.8 goals against.
Previous Matchup
The Flyers and Hurricanes last met in early October, when Carolina beat Philadelphia 4-3 in overtime. Owen Tippett opened the scoring with a power-play goal, while Bobby Brink and Travis Sanheim added goals for the Flyers. Sanheim’s tally tied the game with just under four minutes remaining in regulation, but Seth Jarvis sealed the win for Carolina 4:43 into overtime.

Philadelphia Flyers
Christian Dvorak has been one of the Flyers’ hottest players, recording one goal and four assists over his last three games. The forward has been a strong addition to the lineup and has found chemistry alongside Trevor Zegras, though Dvorak deserves plenty of credit for his own surge in production.
After a costly turnover in overtime against Vegas, Travis Konecny will be looking for a bounce-back performance in this one. He has been a consistent offensive driver for Philadelphia and typically responds well after quieter outings.
Sam Ersson is expected to get the start in net for the Flyers. He enters the matchup with a 5-3-2 record, a 2.98 goals-against average, and an .871 save percentage. Ersson is 3-2 in his last five appearances, with two of those wins coming in shootouts.
Carolina Hurricanes
The Hurricanes have scored the opening goal in exactly half of their games this season, winning 13 of those 15 contests. Shot volume is another major strength, as Carolina averages 33.5 shots on goal per game (second-most in the league) while allowing just 24.3 shots against, the fewest in the NHL.
Offensively, production is spread throughout the lineup. Sebastian Aho leads the team in points with 26, Seth Jarvis leads in goals with 17, and former Flyer Shayne Gostisbehere leads the team in assists with 19. For comparison, Zegras currently leads Philadelphia in goals, assists, and points with 11 goals, 17 assists, and 28 points.
Pyotr Kochetkov is expected to start in goal for Carolina. The netminder holds a 4-1-0 record this season with a 1.96 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage.
