The Philadelphia Flyers (16-9-3) host the Vegas Golden Knights (14-6-9) at the Xfinity Mobile Arena. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 7pm/ET.
The Golden Knights enter tonight’s matchup having won four straight before losing in a 5-4 shootout on Long Island. Their recent results highlight just how streaky they have been: that four-game win streak immediately followed their second four-game skid of the season.
Despite the Flyers being 3-2 in their last five compared to Vegas’ 4-1 record, the Flyers have been the tighter defensive team lately, allowing just 2 goals per game over those games. Vegas, meanwhile, has given up 2.4 per game, and that even includes a shutout. Offensively, both teams have been evenly matched, each averaging 3.4 goals during their last five.
Both teams are also playing where they perform best. Vegas has been strong on the road this season with a 7-2-5 record and a .679 point percentage, better than their overall mark (.638). The Flyers, however, are at their best on home ice with a 10-5-2 record that translates to a .647 point percentage, which also sits above their season average (.625).
For the Flyers, scoring early will be crucial. Vegas has shown some vulnerability in opening periods, allowing 28 first-period goals (T-8th). The only issue is that the Flyers’ lowest scoring period is the first, where they have scored just 23 goals. If they cannot capitalize early, Vegas tends to tighten up defensively as games progress.
The Golden Knights also save their best for last, scoring a team-high 36 of their 89 goals in the third period. Philadelphia, though, has been one of the league’s strongest third-period teams defensively, allowing only 18 goals, second fewest in the NHL.
Another key area will be the faceoff circle. The Flyers are coming off a dominant night at the dot, winning 66.7% of draws, but they will have to replicate that effort against one of the league’s best faceoff teams. Vegas ranks 4th overall at 53.4%, while the Flyers sit 21st at 48.5%.

Philadelphia Flyers
Travis Konecny enters tonight’s game riding a five-game point streak (3G, 5A). He has been even more dominant on home ice, where he carries a 12-game home point streak. The last time he failed to record a point at Xfinity Mobile Arena was back on October 25, and so far this season, there have only been three home games where he has not found the scoresheet. Impressively, seven of his eight goals this season have come on home ice.
In net, Dan Vladař gets the start once again after helping secure the Flyers’ win over San Jose on Tuesday. Although the Sharks scored on their first shot of the night, Vladař settled in quickly and delivered a standout performance, making several big saves to earn the first star of the night. He enters tonight with an 11-5-1 recording, including 7 home victories, along with a 2.5 goals-against average and .908 save percentage.
Vegas Golden Knights
The Flyers will need to focus on shutting down Jack Eichel and Tomáš Hertl if they want to control this game. Eichel leads the Golden Knights with 38 points, tied for 8th-most in the NHL, coming from 12 goals and 26 assists, the latter of which ranks 6th in the league. Hertl, meanwhile, has been their most dangerous goal scorer, with 13 goals on the season.
Despite the anticipation surrounding Carter Hart’s potential return to Philadelphia, the former Flyer will not get the start tonight. Instead, Akira Schmid will be in net for Vegas, making his first appearance since December 5, where he posted a 24-save shutout against the Devils. Prior to that performance, he had lost three straight, allowing 10 goals on 73 shots for a .859 save percentage during that stretch. Still, his overall numbers this season, 2.35 GAA and .903 SV%, show he is capable of delivering steady goaltending.
