The Philadelphia Flyers (13-7-3) wrap up their four-game road trip with a meeting against the New Jersey Devils (16-7-1) at Prudential Center. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:00pm/ET.

Getting shut out in their matchup with the Tampa Bay Lightning to begin the road stand, the Flyers have gone on to win their last two outings away from Xfinity Mobile Arena. Philadelphia fought back to defeat the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions in the Florida Panthers, 4-2, on Wednesday night. The Flyers then survived blowing a three-goal lead to the New York Islanders on Black Friday to win 4-3 in a shootout.

Sam Ersson came through for the Flyers once again during the 1-on-1 attempts to improve to 4-0 this year and 12-3 lifetime in the shootout. Oh yeah, and Trevor Zegras scored per usual and is up to 68% (17-for-25) in the shootout.

“When you have Trevor Zegras on your team, you start almost with one up, so we like our odds in shootouts,” Sean Couturier said. “At the same time, we don’t want to always be going to that point. Regulation wins are huge down the road, so we’ve got to find a way to close those games out and not give out points to especially divisional opponents. It’s a huge win.”

Now awaiting the Orange and Black is another divisional rival in the Devils. New Jersey sits at the top of a tight Metropolitan Division as all eight teams are separated by just six points. With both Philadelphia and New Jersey playing yesterday and having to travel, there’s no excuse for either team to lean on.

Despite the Devils playing with a banged-up roster, the weight of the world does seem to be on the Flyers’ shoulders. Philadelphia enters with a 1-12-2 record in the second half of the back-to-back since last season. Additional pressure is placed upon the Flyers as the Devils seek revenge following the 6-3 beatdown they took in Philadelphia seven days prior. The matchup featured Devils forward Timo Meier opening the scoring only for the Flyers to respond with four goals in 3:32, three coming in the span of 26 seconds, to run away with the win. New Jersey has gone on to win their last three outings since and are riding high following a 5-0 shutout over the Buffalo Sabres.

Philadelphia will need to come out to another fast start which they achieved on Long Island. The Flyers scored twice midway through the first period and got on the board before their opposition for just the seventh time out of 23 games this season.

“We always want to score first, but I think it was just the start that we wanted to make sure to get to our game early,” Rick Tocchet said after the Islanders game. “Having a three-goal lead is a big thing to have. Now we’ve just got to do the in-between part, and we’ve got to get better. It’s a work in progress, but the guys worked hard, and a couple of wins on the road so far. We have a big one tomorrow.”

Dan Vladař will start in net for the Flyers. Vladař is coming off a .926 SV% and earning his ninth win of the season in his start at Florida. He has a .914 SV% across his last six performances and has allowed two or fewer goals in four of those appearances.
