Flyers sign defenseman Noah Juulsen to one-year deal

Daniel Brière was apparently the first general manager to ring in free agency this year as the Philadelphia Flyers have signed defenseman Noah Juulsen to a 1-year, $900,000 contract.

The news was first reported by Vancouver Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie and Dhali – The Team.

Juulsen spent the last four seasons in the Canucks organization between Vancouver and AHL Abbotsford, where he played under Rick Tocchet for parts of three of those seasons. In 2024-25, Juulsen appeared in 35 games with Vancouver but did not record any points while accruing 21 penalty minutes and a -12.

A former first-round pick in 2015 by the Montréal Canadiens, Juulsen had made stops within the Canadiens, Canucks, and Florida Panthers organizations throughout his career. 2023-24 was his best NHL season as he posted 1 goal and 6 assists in 54 games for Vancouver.

A native of Surrey, British Columbia, Juulsen will serve as a depth defenseman for the Flyers and help fill a void as Rasmus Ristolainen is expected to miss training camp and will likely miss time at the beginning of the regular season as well. Juulsen, 28, gives the Flyers another right-handed shot on the blueline, making him an ideal short-term replacement and he can revert back into a regular third-pair role once Ristolainen returns.

The Flyers will also have righties Helge Grans and Oliver Bonk trying to make large impressions in training camp, but Juulsen will be a safer regular option in the meantime.

Juulsen is one of three free agent signings the Flyers have made so far, as they inked center Christian Dvorak and goaltender Dan Vladař later on.
