General manager Daniel Brière has confirmed that a total of 57 players will be in attendance with 33 forwards, 17 defenseman, and 7 goaltenders being present. This large clump of players will be divided up into 3 practice teams, who will partake in on-ice drills before two of them face off in a scrimmage game on the 20th.
After that comes a slew of preseason games that starts on the 21st of September and takes us all the way to the 4th of October. They are set to play in 7 games, which includes 2 against the New York Islanders, 2 against the Boston Bruins, and one each against the Washington Capitals, Montréal Canadiens, and New Jersey Devils.
The roster is filled with plenty of known NHLers like Matvei Michkov, Travis Konecny, and captain Sean Couturier, but it also includes prospects like Denver Barkey, Oliver Bonk, Alex Bump, Nikita Grebenkin, and Carson Bjarnason among so many others.
Also included are forwards Jett Luchanko and Tyson Foerster, with the former having missed Rookie Camp due to injury and the latter having dealt with an infection on his elbow dating back to July.
Foerster was expected to miss an indefinite period of time at the onset of the offseason due to an infection he sustained after his trip to the World Championships. However, Brière intimated that he will start with a non-contract jersey, with the hopes he can shed it for contract within the first week.
Not included is defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen, who Brière mentioned is expected to miss the first month or two of the season after undergoing triceps tendon surgery in March.
So far, the Flyers training camp schedule stretches from the 18th to the 23rd and will include on-ice and off-ice training every day with some games and an off day on the 22nd.
The preseason games will lead us a few days away from the start of the regular season, which begins on October 9th when the Flyers play the defending two-time Stanley Cup champions, the Florida Panthers, on the road.
