Flyers Reduce Training Camp Roster by Four

Ahead of their final preseason game before the regular season opener, the Philadelphia Flyers reduced their training camp roster by four, as they inch closer to their official lineup.

Oliver Bonk, Jacob Gaucher, Cole Knuble, and Jett Luchanko were loaned to the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms, leaving the Flyers with 26 players on their roster.

It’s a significant decision considering how well they had all played, primarily Knuble and Luchanko, who were hoping to each secure a surprising NHL roster spot.

Knuble had impressed the Flyers brass this year and was making serious inroads towards suiting up for his NHL debut, especially after Denver Barkey had left Monday’s game at Washington with an injury. However, it seems Barkey has recovered in time, not to mention that the Flyers have too many mouths to feed at the forward position currently.

For Luchanko, it was a great sign that he had lasted this long in training camp. For someone who had cracked the NHL roster in 2024 and 2025, he didn’t have the best years in the OHL after being drafted. It was revealed he played through a core injury for the last couple of seasons before rectifying the issue, which explains why he looked to have more pep in his step this time around.

With the Phantoms, they can play big minutes and major roles as they get acclimated with the AHL game. Bonk is another one who the Flyers are very high on but don’t have room on the roster for. Nevertheless, all 3 prospects will likely feature with the Flyers at some point this year, whether as injury replacements or because of their performances in the minors.

Remaining on the Flyers roster are Carl Grundström, Helge Grans, Aleksei Kolosov, and Garrett Wilson. Grundström cleared waivers and remains with the team, Grans was hurt in last night’s game, Kolosov is around as insurance for Dan Vladař, and Wilson likely plays tomorrow as the club might want to give the veteran an extra game.

The Flyers wrap things up with the Washington Capitals at home tomorrow before they set their sights on hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday in the front end of a back-to-back situation.
