The Philadelphia Flyers’ 2025-26 season came to an end Saturday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
Despite another outstanding performance from Dan Vladař and goals from Tyson Foerster and Alex Bump, the Flyers fell 3-2 in overtime to the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals, officially ending their playoff run in a four-game sweep.
Philadelphia managed just 17 shots on Frederik Andersen while Carolina piled up 40 shots on Vladař, who once again did everything he could to keep the Flyers alive.
1st Period
Of course, it was Porter Martone who got things started offensively for Philadelphia. Martone recorded the Flyers’ first two shots of the night with a pair of quick early chances on Andersen, though neither found the back of the net.
About 8 minutes in, Foerster finally broke through for his first playoff goal.
Trevor Zegras and Martone entered the zone together before Zegras spotted Foerster flying up the ice. Zegras fed Foerster perfectly, and the winger ripped the puck past Andersen to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead on just their third shot of the night.

At 11:32, Martone was called for hooking, sending Carolina to the power play. The Flyers’ penalty kill came up strong, successfully clearing the zone while Cam York recorded two back-to-back blocked shots. The Hurricanes failed to register an official shot on goal during the advantage despite several attempts.
Jordan Martinook headed to the box for interference at 14:26, giving the Flyers a power play opportunity of their own. Zegras rang a shot off the post, but Philadelphia struggled to generate much else with the man advantage.
Late in the period, Travis Konecny and Christian Dvorak broke in together on a dangerous 2-on-1 rush. Konecny was the one to take the shot, but the puck sailed just wide of the net.

2nd Period
Vladař was forced into action early, making saves on Shayne Gostisbehere, Jordan Staal, Taylor Hall, and Logan Stankoven in rapid succession while Philadelphia struggled to generate much offensively at the other end.
At 4:16, Sean Couturier was called for hooking. Once again, Vladař stood tall, stopping shots from Gostisbehere and Staal while York continued sacrificing his body defensively with more blocks to help kill off the penalty.
Carolina gave the Flyers a huge opportunity midway through the period. At 7:22, Staal was called for tripping before Sebastian Aho took a hooking penalty at 8:42, briefly giving Philadelphia a 5-on-3 advantage. Unfortunately for the Flyers, nothing came of it.
Philadelphia managed just one shot during the extended advantage, a Martone attempt stopped by Andersen, as the power play continued to struggle at the worst possible time.
At 10:20, Rasmus Ristolainen was called for interference, briefly creating four-on-four play before Carolina headed to another power play. Couturier and Luke Glendening did strong work killing time and clearing the puck as the Flyers escaped yet another penalty kill.
Eventually, though, Carolina finally broke through.
A little over the halfway mark, Jackson Blake scored to tie the game 1-1 with assists from K’Andre Miller and Hall. Blake carried the puck around before firing a sharp-angle shot from near the boards that somehow beat Vladař. It was Carolina’s 18th shot of the game, further highlighting how heavily the ice had tilted toward the Hurricanes.

Things almost got worse immediately afterward.
Before Lou Nolan had even finished announcing Blake’s goal, Mark Jankowski appeared to score to give Carolina the lead. However, the goal was waived off for goalie interference after William Carrier made contact with Vladař in the crease.

Late in the period, Glendening and Garnet Hathaway generated another 2-on-1 opportunity, but Hathaway’s shot was stopped by Andersen.

Then, moments later, Carolina nearly capitalized on a 3-on-1 rush of its own, but Jankowski missed what looked like a nearly open net.
The Flyers nearly stole momentum back in the dying seconds of the period when Dvorak fired a shot off the post, but the game remained tied heading into the third.

3rd Period
Carolina grabbed its first lead of the night at 4:13. Hall flew around Oliver Bonk before sliding the puck across to Stankoven near the front of the net. Stankoven quickly snapped the puck past Vladař, with Blake also picking up an assist on the play.

Fortunately for Philadelphia, the response came quickly. Less than two minutes later, Bump tied the game 2-2.
Konecny stole the puck directly behind Andersen’s net after pressuring Miller, and Bump positioned himself perfectly in front of Andersen. Konecny fed him the puck, and Bump buried the opportunity to tie the game.

The goal marked the Flyers’ first third-period goal since Game 4 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
With under 10 minutes remaining, Foerster generated another strong scoring chance on Andersen, and Martone nearly buried the rebound opportunity afterward, but Carolina escaped the sequence without damage.
Eventually, the game headed to overtime.
Overtime
Jamie Drysdale recorded the Flyers’ first shot of overtime after Zegras won the second faceoff, but Andersen made the save.
Travis Sanheim later added Philadelphia’s only other shot of the extra frame.
Then, at 5:31, Blake ended both the game and the Flyers’ season.
Hall worked the puck over to Blake, whose shot initially appeared to be stopped by Vladař. The puck somehow slipped up and over the Flyers goaltender before dropping into the net, giving Carolina the 3-2 overtime victory.

Vladař was visibly frustrated after the goal, but he should not have been blamed for the outcome. The veteran goaltender was one of the biggest reasons the Flyers made it this far in the first place.
Final Thoughts
The Flyers may have been eliminated, but the fans at Xfinity Mobile Arena made sure the team knew their effort throughout the season was appreciated.
Philadelphia received a standing ovation following the loss, while “Let’s Go Flyers” chants echoed throughout the arena during the postgame handshake line.
Vladař finished the night with 37 saves on 40 shots in yet another remarkable performance. Following the overtime goal, the Flyers immediately skated toward their goaltender, surrounding him with support in a moment that perfectly reflected just how important he was to this team all season long.
Martone led the Flyers with five shots on goal, York finished with eight blocked shots, and Konecny recorded seven hits. Sanheim once again led Philadelphia in ice time, skating 28:46.
This season may have ended in heartbreak, but for a young Flyers team that exceeded expectations and gained valuable playoff experience, this truly feels more like the beginning than the end.
Up Next
Locker clean-out day is scheduled for Monday, May 11, where the guys will speak to the media for final exit interviews. It will also likely provide more clarity on the injuries many Flyers battled through during the postseason.
And with that, the 2025-26 Philadelphia Flyers season comes to a close.
See you next season. Let’s Go Flyers.
