Preview; Game 61/82: Philadelphia Flyers vs. Utah Mammoth

(Heather Cattai/Heather Barry Images, LLC)

The Philadelphia Flyers (28-21-11) are back at the Xfinity Mobile Arena tonight as they face off against the Utah Mammoth (32-25-4). After squeezing out their third straight win in a shoot out, the Flyers aim for their first four-game win streak of the 2025-2026 regular season.

In their last three games, they defeated the New York Rangers (3-2 OT), Boston Bruins (3-1), and the Toronto Maple Leafs (3-2 SO). In that time, the Flyers averaged 3 goals for per game, and 1.66 goals against per game. The power play is 2-for-10 (20%) and the penalty kill is 8-for-9 (88.88%) in this three-game stretch. Still, they remain 6 points behind the Boston Bruins, who hold the last Wild Card spot in the East. Playoffs at this point remain unlikely, but if they keep winning, who knows? It’s sports after all.

The Mammoth are 2-1-0 in their last three games, defeating the Minnesota Wild (5-2) and the Washington Capitals (3-2), and losing to the Chicago Blackhawks (4-0). In this set, they have averaged 2.66 goals for per game, and 2.00 goals against per game. Their power play went 3 for 7 (42.85%), and their penalty kill went 4-for-8 (50%).

The Flyers will certain miss Travis Konecny tonight, and not just because he’s one of the best players on the team, but because he is also the heart beat of the locker room. Head coach Rick Tocchet believes it’s an opportunity for others to step up.

“Yeah, I’m not going to lie, you’re looking for guys who are more quieter, the guys who do not say as much to get a little uncomfortable, be a little more boisterous. It’s a tight group and you know, he’s [Konecny] still in there. He’s still hanging around, getting the guys going.” – Rick Tocchet; 3/5/2026

Trade Rumors

The NHL Trade Deadline closes on Friday, March 7th at 3:00PM EST. As of right now, there have not been any moves by the Flyers. Right handed defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen is the Flyers’ top trade candidate. He has had a lot of interest, but it’s been just that up to this point. Briere’s asking price is still a 1st round pick and a prospect for the defenseman. With the news of Colton Parayko denying his trade to Buffalo, Danny Brière may have a bit more breathing room to make a deal.

Another name that is beginning to pick up steam is Bobby Brink, and has been speculated to be a part of a package that includes himself and Ristolainen. One more forward that came up was Nic Deslauriers. With the news of the Flyers signing Garrett “The Hammer” Wilson to an NHL contract (Captain of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms), it may be an indicator that the Flyers are prepared to move one or both of these forwards.

Philadelphia Flyers

Konecny missing another game may feel like a blow on paper, but they have also found ways to win games without him. As recent as Monday, they were able to defeat the Maple Leafs in their own barn. Albeit, via shootout, but still, a win’s a win. Noah Juulsen will pair up with Emil Andrae, and the pairing of Jamie Drysdale and Cam York will stick.

However, the biggest driver of the three-game winning streak? It’s Dan Vladař, without question. In his last two appearances he has stopped 55 of 58 shots on goal. This is good for a .948 SV%, and the kind of results you get when you have good goaltending. Some people use the term “Getting Goalie’d” as if they are not a part of the team. They are, and so is Dan Vladar, and he’s been dynamite for this club.
