Yesterday, Flyers Nation released a primer regarding the 2025 Philadelphia Flyers Rookie Camp. This morning, at 11:00am, the first practice of the camp began. The ice was crisp, but as the prospects skated, one remained absent.

Jett Luchanko, a highly touted center in the prospect pool, did not participate.

Luchanko wasn’t completely healthy. During the 2025 Philadelphia Flyers Development Camp in July, he wasn’t at full speed due to a groin injury. Moving forward, he hoped the groin injury wouldn’t be an issue. Missing the 2025 Development Camp was already enough, and while he could have skated to begin the 2025 Rookie Camp, the Flyers decided to rest him for the 2025 Philadelphia Flyers Training Camp next week. That’ll mean Luchanko will not practice, nor compete in the 2025 Rookie Series this weekend versus the New York Rangers.

It should be emphasized: Daniel Brière cited the decision to rest Luchanko as a ‘precaution.’ Along with the 2025 Development Camp and, now, the 2025 Rookie Camp, Luchanko also missed the 2025 World Junior Summer Showcase in July.

The groin injury will not require surgery. Despite the time missed, he’s a clear favorite to crack the NHL roster. In a four-game stint with Philadelphia, Luchanko displayed a physical style, continued to improve his faceoff win percentage each game, and quickly advanced his ability to control the puck. After rejoining the Guelph Storm, Luchanko competed in 16 games with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, including the postseason, tallying 9 assists.
