The Philadelphia Flyers completed a minor league trade with the Seattle Kraken on Thursday, in which they acquired forward David Goyette in exchange for forward Devin Kaplan.

Goyette, a native of Saint-Jerome, Quebec, was drafted in the second round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft out of the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League. He notched 73 points in 66 games during his draft year before adding 41 goals and 92 points the year after and rounding out his junior career with 40 goals and 117 points in 2023-24.

As a member of the Coachella Valley Firebirds, Goyette hasn’t been able to find that same level of offensive consistency that he had in the CHL. Across 108 games he has 9 goals and 28 points, including 3 goals and 10 points with 73 PIM in 51 games last year.

The 22-year-old centre will now report to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

As for Kaplan, the former 3rd round pick from the same draft hasn’t been able to find his offensive game. In 115 games for Boston University, the 22-year-old scored 25 goals and 64 points, before scoring 5 goals and 13 points in 49 games during his rookie season with the Phantoms last year.

Kaplan also made his NHL debut with the Flyers in 2024-25 when he appeared in a 5-4 loss to the Buffalo Sabres in the final game of the regular season.
