Valerie Camillo to Leave Comcast Spectacor and the Flyers on July 1st

(Paul Sirochman)

Valerie Camillo has decided to step down from her post with Comcast Spectacor and the Philadelphia Flyers effective on the 1st of July.

CEO Dan Hilferty sent out a statement regarding the recent news:

I am writing to share with you that Valerie Camillo has decided to leave Comcast Spectacor, effective July 1st after five years with the company.

As one of our senior leaders, Valerie has helped successfully drive many of our businesses forward. Since joining the company just a few months ago, I have been excited about her work on transforming the Wells Fargo Center into a new, state-of-the-art arena, as well as by the business development opportunities for the Philadelphia Flyers, Philadelphia Wings, and Maine Mariners.

As Valerie departs, her leadership team will continue to work in collaboration with me. Additionally with our recent hiring of Keith Jones as President of Hockey Operations and Danny Briere as General Manager of the Philadelphia Flyers. I’m energized by the leadership team we have in place on the Hockey side of our company. That, on top of the outstanding work being done by all of you across the organization, I’m excited about our company’s future.

I’d to thank Valerie for all she has done for Comcast Spectacor and I wish her the very best in her future endeavours.

Anthony SanFilippo was the first to report the news and as he stated, it’s rather odd timing indeed. The Flyers just a month ago ushered themselves into a new era of orange, had Camillo front and center with Hilferty, Jones, Briere, and John Tortorella, and made it seem like this was the leadership group moving forward into their rebuild.

Camillo also took on a new position back in September as President and Chief Executive Officer of Spectacor Sports and Entertainment. She was responsible for all things Wells Fargo Center and the business side of things for the Flyers, Wings, and Mariners. Before joining the Flyers, she was the chief revenue and marketing officer for the Washington Nationals from 2014-2018, as well as a consultant to the NBA between 2010-2014 for marketing and business operations.

Heading into the off-season, the Flyers mentioned countless times how they were going to make changes in the makeup of their front office. It started with Jones as the President, Briere being officially named as the GM, Alyn McCauley getting promoted to Assistant GM, and a slew of other dismissals and promotions.

The leadership group of the Flyers has been heavily criticized for years and it’s looking like Briere and company are keeping their word to the fan base that changes are afoot and to remain patient in the pursuit of better days ahead. The timing of her departure is still rather mystifying as news and specifics will eventually funnel out on the true reasons behind it all.
