With another NHL season being around the corner, the excitement for Flyers hockey is starting to pick up in Philadelphia.
While they will probably be taking a back seat to the Phillies during Red October (THIS is finally the year they win it all), and to the Eagles during the meat of the NFL season (I mean, undefeated reigning Super Bowl champions so far come on), the Flyers will still have eyes on them with the arrival of new center Trevor Zegras.
Another thing to look forward to besides Zegras this season are the scheduled promotional nights the Flyers are running. Now there are some promotional nights that are here every season that I won’t be getting too in-depth with as we already know how those go (Pride Night, Star Wars Night, Hockey Fights Cancer Night, Military Appreciation Night, Ed Snider Legacy Night).
When looking at the promotional schedule this season, there are some super exciting games that fans should circle on their calendars.
HM: Home Opening Night – October 13th vs. Florida Panthers
Yes I know this is technically a “promotional night that is here every season that I won’t be getting to in-depth with,” but there is a lot of excitement around this team with the additions of Trevor Zegras and Rick Tocchet. Watching Matvei Michkov play hockey again is always a treat as well. You also get a t-shirt or something at this game too I guess.
HOCKEY!
#5A: Hello Kitty Night | Hello Kitty Plush – January 12th vs. Tampa Bay Lightning
#5B: Gritty Squishy Plush – February 3 vs. Washington Capitals
Taking a page out of the Phillies book here, the Flyers are having a Hello Kitty Night! If you buy a special ticket, you will be able to go collect a Hello Kitty Plush doll. I would assume the doll would in some way involve the Flyers, whether Hello Kitty is wearing a Flyers outfit, or even it being a Gritty Kitty. Anyways the reason it’s here is because it’s new and exciting. I do think this will be a one year only they do this though, I just can’t see Hello Kitty being a backbone of Flyers promotional nights. I’m also grouping in the Gritty Squishy Plush night in here because it’s pretty much the same concept minus the Hello Kitty branding that goes along with it.
#4: Dollar Food Nights – December 9th & March 24th (Hot Dogs), January 10th (Pretzels), and April 5th (Ice Cream)
With the Phillies still refusing to bring back the OG Dollar Dog night, the Flyers have now ran away with the crown for best food promo nights in the city, especially with them doing dollar pretzel and ice cream nights as well. I’m still waiting for a dollar beers game next season (Dan Hilferty, I’m looking at you. I know you can make this dream a reality.)
#3: The giveaway we have no idea about yet – December 1st vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
Ok just like last season, the Flyers have a mystery game/giveaway they’re doing this year. All we know is that it’s called the Keystone Rivalry game. I know I know technically every game against the Penguins is a Keystone Rivalry game, but this one is on the promotional schedule this year for the first time. Also, it’s only there for the game on December 1st, while it is not there for the game on October 28th. Seems weird to me. We’ll see what’s special about is as we get closer I would assume.
#2: PECO Go Green Camper Hat – March 9th vs. New York Rangers
This one might have come from the players themselves. I feel like anytime you see any of them with a hat on, it’s either a trucker snapback, or a camper hat. I would assume the hat has a Flyers logo on the front, and a PECO logo on the side. Kind of like what they do when they give away hats at Phillies games. There is a lot of overlap between the Phillies and the Flyers and their theme nights, so I would assume the actual giveaways themselves would be similar.
#1: Ticketmaster Sweatshirt Giveaway — February 28 vs. Boston Bruins
This one could tumble down the list so quickly if the sweatshirt itself is just a Ticketmaster sweatshirt with no Flyers branding. If it does have Flyers branding on it this automatically becomes the best giveaway. Do you know how much sweatshirts cost? And in THIS economy? This feels like a steal to go see a game against a Bruins team they could actually finally beat, while also getting a sweatshirt for FREE. I know I’ll be here for that game, and I know a lot of you reading this will be there too.
There are obviously more theme nights than the ones listed here. To find the full list of promotional nights click here.
