In a half hour, the Philadelphia Flyers (22-16-8) will host the New York Rangers (20-22-6) at the Call Center (Xfinity Mobile Arena) at 1pm/ET.

It will be the second clash of the 2025-2026 NHL Regular Season between the two clubs. Both teams are scheduled to meet four times throughout the course of the 2025-2026 NHL Regular Season. To date, the Flyers are 0-0-1, losing in a shootout, 5-4, in December. Artemi Panarin and Vincent Trocheck each scored in the shootout on Sam Ersson. Denver Barkey made his NHL debut in the shootout loss, securing two assists when Travis Sanheim and Owen Tippett scored.

Lately, Philadelphia has been struggling. They’re on a five-game losing streak, where they’ve lost four games in regulation. They’re deteriorating in terms of health, as the injuries pile up off the ice. On the ice, the Flyers, overall, have been poor on special teams.

Over the last five games, Philadelphia is 2/16 (12.5%) on the power play, allowing two shorthanded goals. They’re 11/18 (61.1%) on the penalty kill, and the Rangers’ power play ranks among the NHL’s top-10.

The Flyers cannot afford to sit back. During this five-game skid, they’re showing the distance between them and other teams battling for a postseason spot. The Rangers rank last in the Eastern Conference, and Philadelphia badly needs a win.

Philadelphia Flyers

Alexei Kolosov (0-2-0; 88.6%SV, 2.69GAA) will make his second start of the season. He lost his only other start in a closely-contested battle versus the Calgary Flames, 2-1. In that start, he saved 19/21 shots on goal (90.5%). If he can replicate a performance close to that, he’ll provide the Flyers with a chance to break this losing streak. He’ll also put pressure on Ersson, who needs to regain his composure before he loses his backup role.

Barkey, since making his debut, provided a spark when on a line with Sean Couturier. Joined by Matvei Michkov, this line still contributed against the Pittsburgh Penguins, late in an ugly loss. Barkey notched two primary assists, setting up Michkov and Nick Seeler to score, halving the deficit in a 6-3 loss to the Penguins. The final goal of that game, scored by Michkov, featured Barkey and Couturier on the assist.

Rick Tocchet has his forward lines in a blender without Brink and Foerster. Barkey, Couturier, and Michkov will hopefully stick and work their way into more minutes.

Seeler has been one of the better defenders lately for Philadelphia. He’s blocking shots in front of his goaltenders, generally playing a very physical game. The only caveat is screening the goaltenders in those shot block attempts.

Count on Seeler to help aid on the penalty kill, which was once a strong special teams unit for the Flyers this season.
