After a hard-fought 2-1 loss in their season-opener on Thursday in Sunrise, the Philadelphia Flyers (0-1-0) are back in action on Saturday night against the Carolina Hurricanes (1-0-0).
“There’s pockets of good stuff. Obviously, I didn’t like our second [period],” said Tocchet after Thursday’s game. “Taking those penalties takes people out of the game. But, there was some good stuff. It’s [a] good measuring stick. One thing with Florida I respect; they believe in what they do. They dump a lot of pucks, they’re great forechecking; we got to make sure we believe in what we’re doing. Sixty minutes, right? Pucks turned over; things like that, we got to clean up. But, for the most part, the effort was there. Can’t really get too upset.”
Noah Cates scored the Flyers’ lone goal on Thursday and newcomer Dan Vladař made 32 stops in his Flyers debut. Tonight, Sam Ersson will make his first start of the season, and Nikita Grebenkin and Jett Luchanko will draw in for Nicolas Deslauriers and Rodrigo Ābols.
The Flyers will be without Rasmus Ristolainen (triceps) and Cam York (lower-body) again as they are still out and on injured reserve. Meanwhile, Carolina will be healthy aside from backup goalie Pyotr Kochetkov (lower-body), who will miss at least a week.
