Preseason Preview: Flyers take on Capitals in Hershey

(Heather Cattai/Heather Barry Images, LLC)

The Philadelphia Flyers (1-1-0) will head into Chocolatetown, USA on Thursday evening to take on the Washington Capitals (1-0-0) in their third preseason contest.

The Flyers previously defeated the New York Islanders on Sunday, 3-2, after an 11-round shootout and lost to the Montréal Canadiens, also 3-2, on Tuesday. The Capitals opened the preseason on Sunday with a 5-2 win at Boston led by Sonny Milano’s four-point performance.

Instead of playing in Philadelphia or Washington, tonight’s game will take place in Hershey, home of the AHL Bears who are affiliated with the Capitals. It will give minor league fans a chance to watch their local heroes skate alongside NHL stars in their own barn.

Dan Vladař will make his Flyers preseason debut in goal. He will start and play the first period tonight while Aleksei Kolosov will play the other two. Kolosov appeared in both of the Flyers’ prior games, stopping 27 of 30 shots faced so far.

The Flyers made a batch of roster cuts, trimming their personnel by 10 players on Thursday. Sawyer Boulton, Cooper Marody, Garrett Wilson, Zayde Wisdom, Yaniv Perets, and Keith Petruzzelli were returned to the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Massimo Rizzo, Tucker Robertson, and Samu Tuomaala were assigned from Philadelphia to Lehigh Valley, and Oscar Eklind was waived for purpose of assignment to Lehigh Valley.
