Tonight, the Philadelphia Flyers (1-0-0) visit the Montréal Canadiens (1-0-0) at 7pm/ET from the Bell Centre.

Each of these clubs was victorious in a similar fashion during their 2025 NHL Preseason opener. The Flyers defeated the New York Islanders in a shootout, 3-2, once Emil Andrae scored the game-winner. Then, last night, the Canadiens secured a shootout win on home ice versus the Pittsburgh Penguins, 2-1, when Oliver Kapanen scored the deciding goal.

Yesterday, Philadelphia had the day off. Montréal will host on back-to-back nights.

Tyson Foerster (bicep) wore a normal practice jersey this morning, per Jordan Hall. He could compete in the 2025 NHL Preseason, but more importantly, Foerster is on pace to begin the 2025-2026 NHL Regular Season. Others still recovering this morning include Rasmus Ristolainen (tricep), Oliver Bonk (upper body), and Karsen Dorwart (upper body).

“We’ve gradually let him [Tyson Foerster] in some drills [with] some pushing and shoving. Now, he’s [onto] the next level. I don’t want to give a date, but obviously, when you give a guy a little bit more physicality to practice, you know you’re getting closer.” – Rick Tocchet; 9/23/2025

In a proper segue from Ristolainen, Helge Grans deserves a significant spotlight. Ristolainen will not be healthy to begin the 2025-2026 NHL Regular Season, and Grans has his best opportunity to be the ‘next man up’ to crack the NHL roster. He will tandem with Nick Seeler on a defensive pairing against the Canadiens. Physicality is one of the core traits Ristolainen possesses when he’s on the ice, and Grans understands he needs to be more physical, but without straying away from his game:

“I need to play my game, but my game to get better, I do need a little bit more physicality out there. I need to play harder to play better.” – Helge Grans; 9/23/2025

Among the forwards, there’s a bevy of talent with a mission to be noticed. Jett Luchanko and Alex Bump are a couple of prospects who already have the spotlight on them as fresh blood to inject into the NHL roster. This will be the first time for either of the prospects to compete in the 2025 NHL Preseason.

Sam Ersson will start with plans to play the entire exhibition. Alexei Kolosov will back up.
