With the 95th overall pick in the 2023 NHL draft, the Flyers selected Center Denver Barkey.

Barkey hails from Newmarket, ON and was listed as the 78th overall prospect by NHL Network. Barkey is listed at 5 foot 8, 174 pounds, and has a left-handed shot.

In his 2022-23 season with the London Knights (OHL), Barkey tallied 22 goals and 37 assists. Brock Otten of McKeen’s describes Barkey as a “workhorse who is tenacious, excellent forechecker” and also has “great vision”.

Dayton Reimer of TheHockeyWriters.com explained that originally Denver Barkey “didn’t stand out from the crowd” but that changed once the OHL playoffs began. Barkey showed up in the OHL playoffs, recording the 4th most goals with 11. Reimer detailed that Barkey’s game is “defined by shiftiness; when he has the puck, he’ll pull every trick in the book to shake opponents and create space”. Barkey’s size may be a concern however his stats show he certainly has the talent.

The Flyers continue to grow their young offensive prospect pool with a center-man with good upside in Barkey.
