Flyers’ new Reverse Retro jersey unveiled

(Philadelphia Flyers/Adidas Hockey)

As was the case with the other 31 teams in the NHL today, the Philadelphia Flyers have unveiled their Reverse Retro jerseys for this season.

The jersey pays homage to the Flyers’ “Broad Street Bullies” Stanley Cup-winning teams of 1974 and 1975.

According to the Flyers’ official news release, “The iconic Flyers crest will showcase dimensional embroidery treatment raising the outline around the front crest featuring a thin black outline surrounding the crest to match the original worn only in 1974. The jersey is remixed in an almost all white and black color palette, while slight accents of burnt orange pay homage to teams from the 1990’s. The current NHL Shield logo is also remixed in vintage orange and black colors.”

This is a much different look than 2021’s Reverse Retro uniforms, as the Flyers previously went with a burnt orange and black look on their 1982-2007 jersey design.

To add on to the nostalgia, the Flyers are also bringing back the infamous Cooperall pants for warmups in each game that they’ll wear the Reverse Retro jerseys.

The Flyers wore the pants for two seasons from 1981 to 1983, but ditched them afterwards when the NHL banned them over safety concerns. The only other team to sport Cooperalls at the time was the Hartford Whalers.

Philadelphia will wear their Reverse Retro jerseys and sport the Cooperalls during warmups eight times this season, starting on November 8th against the St. Louis Blues. Jerseys are already available for preorder through the Wells Fargo Center’s shop website, and they will be fully released for purchase on November 15th.
