Flyers look to dodge the cannon in Columbus in Cam Atkinson’s return to Nationwide Arena

(Heather Barry Images, LLC)

The Philadelphia Flyers will look to bounce back against the Columbus Blue Jackets after losing to them on Tuesday night by a score of 4-2. The Flyers fired 49 shots on net but only managed to beat Merzlikins twice in the losing affair. Check out the recap by Dean Chaudhry here.

Tuesday’s game certainly didn’t lack any effort from the Flyers offense. The young-guns continued to impress, including Noah Cates scoring his first NHL goal, Morgan Frost looking more and more comfortable by the day, and Owen Tippett finding himself on what seems like 50 breakaways a game.

Tonight, the Flyers are fighting the broomsticks to avoid being swept by the Blue Jackets in the season series. I’m not expecting too much to change with the lineups, let’s take a look at what we’re expecting below!

News and Notes

  • As mentioned in my last preview, the Flyers and Blue Jackets have been frequent trade partners. The most recent trade between the two teams was a one-for-one swap of Jake Voracek and Cam Atkinson. Both Atkinson and Voracek have surpassed 50 points with their new teams; Atkinson with 50 points (23G, 27A) and Voracek with 51 points (5G, 46A).
  • This will be Cam Atkinson’s first time back in Columbus after being traded to the Flyers in the summer. Atkinson had 402 points in 627 games since being drafted back in 2008 by CBJ, 6th rd, 6th pk (157th overall).
  • Patrik Laine leads the Blue Jackets in goals and points (25G, 27A, 52pts) and a familiar face, Jake Voracek, leads the team in assists (46). No surprise that this will be a duo to watch on a line together.
