Flyers look to close road trip on high note against Ducks in battle of shorthanded teams

(Heather Barry Images, LLC)

The Philadelphia Flyers will roll into Honda Center tonight to face off against the Anaheim Ducks in the final game of this four-game Pacific road trip. The Flyers are currently 1-1-1 on the trip, as they defeated the Seattle Kraken to open things up before falling in overtime to the San Jose Sharks on the second leg of a back-to-back. Their most recent game was a 6-3 thrashing by the Los Angeles Kings back on Saturday night.

Philadelphia will be getting back forward Scott Laughton and goaltender Carter Hart ahead of tonight’s game against a solid Ducks squad, who are having a strong year so far and currently sit second in the Pacific Division standings. Unfortunately, the Flyers will be missing defenseman Ivan Provorov and forward Claude Giroux after both were placed in COVID-19 protocols earlier today.

Flyers interim head coach Mike Yeo noted the importance of tonight’s contest in his press conference yesterday afternoon when asked about it by NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Jordan Hall.

“I think it’s a very important game to be honest. First of all, you know, you wanna bounce back from a loss. I think that’s what good teams do, and we lost last game, you know, created some more opportunities, kind of climbed back into it but not really. So we wanna bounce back from that.”

“I think we win that game tomorrow and I think we’re all coming home feeling pretty decent about the trip. Not necessarily an outstanding trip but a pretty good trip, and gives us a chance to get back on the horse, get some momentum going into some games coming up at home.”
