Banged Up Flyers Place Cam York on IR, Recall Hunter McDonald

The Philadelphia Flyers made several transactions on Sunday, including the IR placement for defenseman Cam York who has been out of the lineup with an upper-body injury.

The IR placement is retroactive to October 8th, meaning he can return at any point once he’s cleared to play. Additionally, the Flyers recalled defenseman Hunter McDonald to take his spot and have loaded defenseman Helge Grans and forward Jack Studnicka to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

York last suited up against the Ottawa Senators on the 8th of October and was initially deemed as day-to-day. However, he’s missed all 5 games since, which has left a void on the back-end. In his absence, the Flyers have relied on Simon Benoit and David Jiříček on the third pair, but felt reinforcements were necessary with the call-up of McDonald.

The former 6th round pick from the 2022 NHL Entry Draft has a goal and 3 points in 6 games for the Phantoms thus far. He made his NHL debut last season, but has otherwise been a staple for the Phantoms with 136 games played between 2024-26, accumulating 4 goals, 24 points, and 191 PIM.

The Flyers have also been without Rasmus Ristolainen, who remains on the IR, but he’s been seen practicing, so there’s a chance he could be returning soon.

As for Studnicka, he was recalled shortly after Travis Konecny was placed on IR. He’s played in 3 games thus far, has a -1 rating, 2 PIM, and 8:48 ATOI. The 27-year-old will return to the Phantoms, where he’s recorded a goal and 3 points in 3 games.

The banged up Flyers host the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night with the hope of creating a win streak after finally securing their first victory of the season on Saturday.
