After a 6-2 thrashing of the Washington Capitals on Sunday afternoon, the Philadelphia Flyers are back in action against the Montréal Canadiens in their second game of the preseason.
The Flyers looked strong from start to finish and really made an impression after a few intense on-ice sessions in Training Camp in Voorhees. Bobby Brink and Morgan Frost each scored twice while Joel Farabee and Olle Lycksell also chipped in. 2024 first-round pick Jett Luchanko was a threat all over the ice with his speed and physicality and racked up two assists. 2023 first-round pick Matvei Michkov also tallied two assists.
“Everyone has to earn a spot everyday. Doesn’t matter who you are,” said Brink after the game. “I’m coming in here and I want to just put my best foot forward and try to come off the year with a little momentum.”
Brink and Lycksell will be in the lineup tonight in Montréal with a group that is more NHL-heavy than Sunday’s lineup. Sean Couturier, Scott Laughton, Nicolas Deslauriers, Egor Zamula, and Rasmus Ristolainen will make their preseason debuts tonight.
One younger player that will get his first preseason action tonight – and someone to watch for – is defenseman Oliver Bonk. The 2023 first-rounder has had a quietly impressive camp and will look to have a strong performance tonight.
“Just be able to keep up with the pace,” said Bonk on Monday morning about what he wants to show the Flyers. “Being able to play that type of game and play really well defensively with that type of level of players out there, that they’re faster, they’re better than anything I’ve seen before, so just being able to prove I can be up there with them.”
Bonk and the Flyers will have their work cut for them in that regard as the Canadiens are icing an NHL-heavy lineup of their own that will feature new acquisition Patrik Laine, Kirby Dach, Josh Anderson, Alex Newhook, Christian Dvorak, David Savard, rookie sensation Lane Hutson, Arber Xhekaj, Justin Barron, and Cayden Primeau in goal.
