The Philadelphia Flyers’ first 2026 preseason opponent will be their last. The Flyers host the Washington Capitals today, who previously defeated them on Monday in Hershey, PA by a score of 5-2.
Washington iced a more NHL-heavy lineup in that game as three of their goals were scored by regulars Dylan Strome, Ryan Leonard, and Aliaksei Protas, while the other two were scored by roster hopeful Jonny Brodzinski. The Flyers’ goals came from Jack Studnicka and Cole Knuble, who were both sent to AHL Lehigh Valley.
Tonight, Philadelphia will have just about what the Opening Night lineup will look like on Wednesday, while the Capitals will be sending a mostly Hershey-bound roster to Xfinity Mobile Arena for this preseason finale.

The Flyers got their first 2026 preseason win on Thursday night against the Boston Bruins, 2-0. Joseph Woll stopped 28 shots while Matvei Michkov and Knuble scored the goals. Michkov was the Flyers’ best skater in the game and will get another tuneup today with the NHL-heavy lineup.
Among the roster battles remaining for the Flyers, Nikita Grebenkin and Carl Grundström are still around in the forward group as Knuble and Jett Luchanko were assigned to the Phantoms, and David Jiříček has won his way onto the defense over AHL-bound Oliver Bonk. Garrett Wilson remains with the team and while he will likely be sent to Lehigh Valley, it will be interesting to see if he fills the Nic Deslauriers role and sticks around as an extra forward for the Flyers.
Aleksei Kolosov will start in goal and is expected to play today’s game in its entirety. With Dan Vladař still day-to-day and Woll already at his two-game preseason game cap as a veteran, Yaniv Perets was signed to a PTO and will serve as the backup today, wearing #30. Perets spent last season between Lehigh Valley and ECHL Reading, the latter for which he was the main starter.
